Photographer's Note

Happiness is often temporary for most of us... the camera often robs from me the events and moments I witness as it's hard to fully participate in the moment (even one such as this) when you're operating a camera. Every time we activate the shutter, we sacrifice that moment as we'll not have witnessed it in person. Looking back, all of the details I couldn't possibly grasp - are wrenching to me now. How does it smell there?... take a moment to study the image, No dust, no smoke today; yet, the woman on the left most likely persists here day in and day out and she is still holding the fabric close to her nose and mouth - it's not something anyone should get used to.

The next time I go here, they'll get some hugs as they need more than just rice and ointment.

If you want to help or know more information - there are organizations that tend to this situation to some degree - a French NGO, Pour un Sourire d'Enfant(Francais only) & a local non profit - Mith Samlanh providing many developmental programs for these children.
