Photographer's Note

Perhaps eating bat meat is or isn't an afrodisiac... I don't know, but life along the Tonle Sap is becoming more and more difficult as time progresses. The dams in China are affecting the water and silt (nutrients) flow to the Mekong river communities which squeezes the life from these people. Whether or not this sort of bat harvesting was going on 10 years ago or not doesn't really matter in my opinion. It's certainly not sustainable, but who are we to pass judgement. I suspect I'd do the same thing to earn a extra money if I were in their place.

This photograph was taken from 30m out with a strong fill flash. Image was also cropped heavily.

An interesting web site that deals with the Three Gorges http://www.threegorgesprobe.org

This image was shot in near complete darkness of twilight - in this case, it's a matter of technology delivering a photograph - I had little to do with it's execution. (580EX flash)
